Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD), often called Lymphatic Drainage Massage, are techniques used to move and reroute lymph or excess fluid. MLD is as part of the system of Complete Decongestive Therapy in the management of lymphedema . Defects of or damages to the lymphatic system cause chronic lymphedema.

In addition to the treatment of lymphedema, lymphatic drainage massage can also speed the removal of fluid following injury, surgery, or athletic endeavors. The techniques promote general wellness, relieve pain through nervous sedation, and reduce fluid buildup. Also, MLD and Massage Cupping can even help reduce fluid buildup caused by restrictive clothing.  This can include items such as underwire bras or elastic waist bands.

These powerful techniques are especially useful to speed the removal of fluid and reduce pain following surgeries.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage is effective following most plastic or aesthetic surgeries. These include, liposuction, abdominoplasty, facial surgeries, and more. Learn more about Lymphatic Drainage at Blue Lotus Wellness.

Also called Lymph Drainage Therapy (LDT), the techniques can help many conditions including

  • Abdominoplasty, and other elective surgeries
  • Detoxification
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Arthritis
  • Sprains
  • Orthopedic conditions

A series of 4-8 lymph drainage sessions is often the most effective way to address acute fluid build-up (such as after surgery). Lymphatic Drainage Massage is a painless technique that can produce amazing results in decreasing swelling and pain. In addition, the techniques are calming and can significantly reduce stress. Lymph Drainage often presents as a post-nasal drip for up to 48 hours after treatment. There may also be a temporary increase in volume or frequency of urination.

You can also receive a treatment combining manual lymph drainage techniques with massgae cupping or MediCupping to address your specific needs.

Preparing for Lymphatic Drainage
To prepare for a lymphatic drainage session, we recommend (at least 2 days prior to treatment) the avoidance of red meat, sugar, fried food, and caffeine. It is also important to drink 8-10 glasses of water (8 oz. each) each day.  This includes the day before treatment, the day of treatment, and the morning after treatment. The maintenance of this level of daily water intake has many health benefits.

You can help maintain general health and detoxification with 2-3 Lymphatic Drainage Massage sessions 1-2 times a year.
